Fact: APIs are hot. Nothing charms us quite like a well-designed API with a nice (spec sheet) to boot. In the right hands, whether it be their creators’ or their users’, APIs are powerful and are at the center of many miracles. Over the last few years, they have proven their worth and become a mainstay of our apps and web experience.

The thing is, for their daily use, the metric boatload of tools required can quickly turn into one big time-consuming hellscape. A lot of us wish for a well-thought-out global solution.

So that’s our mission: give developers, product managers and whoever might need them the tools to create and maintain the best API ecosystem.

Bump is looking to reinvent what’s expected from a developer portal: a place where humans and tools can sync up around (API plans). We are setting up a unique meeting point for your team, your community, around your API — and we aim to make things easy.

Wouldn’t you know it: we need some swell people like you!

The job

You guessed it after reading this tearing introduction: there is a lot to do to build the community’s tools. And to achieve this ambitious goal, what we need right now is a Lead Backend Engineer.

Well, you will code for sure but not only. Your voice will be heard on many occasions, like for debating on the product, working on articles for our community or even helping in support.

Your daily routine will look like this:

• You will discuss upcoming features with the Product team and your fellow engineers.
• You will code them (what a surprise) with your team who will review the result of your passionate work.
• You will review them too, a never-ending loop.
• You could write, from time to time, blog posts or other types of content about features or topics you worked on.
• You will be a full team member: your opinions and thoughts on any topic (related or not to your scope) are valued and expected. We need you to improve ourselves. 🙂
• You will develop an outstanding resistance to terrible puns and dad jokes.

Here are a few things that we are looking for in this position (even if we are still totally open to anything). It looks like this:

• You are an excellent architect: design patterns, legacy… it rings a bell. And you could even build a small hideout in a tree for us in a couple of hours, just like that.
